Obviously, electronic dictionaries are more time-saving, which most accounts for its popularity. However, let’s look at the phenomenon in another way. As an electronic dictionary user myself, I've found that the biggest deficiency of electronic dictionaries is that they do not contain as much information as traditional dictionaries. They only give us the meaning, instead of the usage of the word, which makes it difficult for us to use the word properly, especially the word that has more than one meaning.
On the whole, I think a learner should have a good dictionary at hand and treat the electronic dictionary as a makeshift. Only in this way can we improve a great deal in English study.
